Madeleine D. Buie, beloved mother, wife, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at the age of 94 after a brief illness.She was born in Rabat, Morocco, during the years when it was a French colony, and spent her childhood in Strasbourg, France, enduring the hardships of daily life under German occupation during World War II. With determination, she pursued her education and graduated from the University of Strasbourg with a degree in International Banking and Business Administration. After graduation, she worked for the U.S. military in France, where her fluency in French, German, English, and Alsatian proved invaluable in advancing the Western Alliance’s Cold War efforts during the 1950s.Her journey eventually brought her to the United States, where she proudly became a U.S. citizen. Her professional life reflected a deep dedication to service. She built a career in the banking and mortgage industry and also worked with the American Red Cross in both Germany and the United States. In later years, she generously volunteered thousands of hours with the Red Cross, supporting U.S. military personnel and providing aid during times of need and national disasters.She is preceded in death by her parents, Ange Toussaint Desideri of Venzolasca, Corsica, France, and Alice Hausser of Strasbourg, France.Madeleine is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Andrew L. Buie, whose steadfast love and resilience defined their life together. Over the years, she lived in many places—including Germany, Turkey, Panama, Georgia, Arkansas, Florida, and metro Washington, D.C. area—embracing each community with excitement and curiosity. Together, she and her husband also traveled extensively across Europe, the Middle East, and Central and South America, reflecting a shared spirit of adventure and discovery that enriched their lives and broadened their horizons. She leaves behind her cherished daughter, Patricia Foshée.Madeleine will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, whose sweet disposition touched everyone around her. She never sought attention for herself and lived with humility, always mindful never to be a burden to others.Her ashes will be scattered at sea between the United States and France, as she wished. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Red Cross in her honor.
