Magolena “Maggie” Langstraat, 91, of Grinnell died Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Montezuma Specialty Care Center in Montezuma.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with visitation from 9:00 AM until start of service at Cox-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given in her name.
Maggie was born on October 6, 1934, the daughter of Leonard and Elizabeth (De Koning) Slycord in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She married Richard Langstraat and together they had three sons, Dan, Terry and Tim. The couple later divorced. She later married Robert Fuerst. Maggie was a homemaker when the boys were young. She later worked as a manager at Breadeaux Pizza, the overall factory Big Smith and enjoyed farming. For over 20 years Maggie worked as a Lead Supervisor at Ideal Manufacturing Company.
Maggie was always on the go. She enjoyed farming, sewing, camping, fishing, her kitties and the flower gardens. There was never a weed that stood a chance against her! Maggie knew the value of the dollar and instilled that value to her sons. Christmas time always brought out the dart guns; and her banana cream pie and peanut brittle were always the best.
Maggie will be remembered by her husband, Bob Fuerst of Grinnell; her three sons, Dan (Victoria) Langstraat of Oskaloosa, Terry (Becky) Langstraat of Cedar, and Tim (Rebecca) Langstraat of Oskaloosa; grandchildren; Ryan (Angela) Langstraat, Brad Langstraat, Chad (Michelle) Langstraat, Aaron Langstraat, Lisa (Josh) Roosa and Jeremy (Ladonna) Langstraat; great grandchildren, Jullian Emma, Paige, Shyanne, Aiden, Austin, Teria, Hayden, Blake, Colton, McKenna and Charlie Jo; great great-grandchildren, Makinlee, Natalee, Landon Versteegh; and several nieces and nephews.
Maggie and her husband Bob were extremely blessed to have very special neighbors of Shane and Jonna Carnahan. They were not only there in time of need, but in the last several years they have been care providers for Maggie and Bob. Maggie never had a girl to have any type of mother daughter relationship. But when Jonna came into Maggie's life, she became Maggie's and the family’s "adopted" daughter. Shane came over nearly every morning to check in on Maggie and Bob and to have some of "Maggie's coffee". Without Shane and Jonna's love and care for Maggie and Bob they would never have been able to stay on and enjoy the farm life as long as they had. Maggie, Bob and family are eternally grateful to Shane and Jonna!
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Alexia; and her siblings, Cornie, Walt, Andy, Pete, Katie, Anna, Johanna and Josephine.
