Manuel's Obituary

Manuel “El Manchao” Reyez Zurita, 72, of Navasota, passed away Monday, November 24, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in College Station surrounding by those he loved. 

A gathering of family and friends will take place Monday, December 8th, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Christ Our Light Catholic Church.  A parish rosary will follow at 7:30 p.m.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 9th, at Christ Our Light Catholic Church with Rev. David Michael Moses as the celebrant.  The rite of committal will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Joel Reyes, Daniel Reyez, Javier Torres, Fernando Reyes, Rigoberto Reyes, and Alejandro Guzman.Honorary pallbearers are Manuel Reyes Jr, Carlos Reyes, Elias Reyes, Juan Reyes, Rigoberto Reyes, Manuel Garcia, Juan Zurita, Carlos Zurita, Jorge Garcia, Sergio Garcia, Rafael Pizano, Baltazar Regalado, Guillermo Vallecillo and Antonio Hernandez.

Born on July 10, 1953 in Ozumbilla, Gto., Mexico, he was the son of Elpidio Reyez and Sofia Zurita. He grew up with six siblings: Carlos, Eva, Elias, Rigoberto, Juan, & Martin. Manuel was a hardworking man.  He started working from a very early age in different places including farmlands in Pennsylvania, Sanderson Farm, machinist in Ellwood Texas Forge, construction, and as a carnitas cook and caterer. One of his favorite pastimes included traveling, especially to Mexico. Manuel enjoyed singing, dancing and listening to regional and Banda music. He also loved attending rodeos, cooking and socializing with friends and family. Manuel had a big heart and always helped those he cared about. A husband, father, grandfather and great friend. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elpidio and Sofia; brother, Martin Reyes; sister, Eva Garcia; and his son, Adolfo Reyes.

Manuel leaves behind to cherish his memories his beloved wife of almost 52 years, Eva Aguilera de Reyes; three sons: Joel Reyes, Manuel Reyes Jr., and Daniel Reyez (wife Emily Gomez); two daughters: Brenda Torres (husband Javier Torres) and Julieta Reyes; four grandchildren: Viviana Torres, Valeria Torres, Oscar Daniel Reyez and Adolfo Reyes; as well as many relatives and dear friends. He will forever be remembered by everyone with love.

Nació el 10 de julio de 1953 en Ozumbilla, Gto., México. Fue hijo de Elpidio Reyez y Sofia Zurita. Creció con seis hermanos: Carlos, Eva, Elías, Rigoberto, Juan y Martín. Manuel era un hombre muy trabajador. Desde muy pequeño trabajó en diferentes lugares, incluyendo campos de cultivo en Pensilvania, Sanderson Farm, como maquinista en Ellwood Texas Forge, en la construcción y como cocinero de carnitas. Uno de sus pasatiempos favoritos era viajar, especialmente a México. A Manuel le encantaba cantar, bailar y escuchar música regional y de banda. También le encantaba asistir a los jaripeos, cocinar y conviivir con amigos & familiares. Manuel tenía un gran corazón y siempre ayudaba a quienes le importaban. Fue esposo, padre, abuelo y gran amigo. Lo extrañarán profundamente quienes lo conocieron y amaron.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Elpidio y Sofía; su hermano, Martín Reyes; su hermana, Eva García; y su hijo, Adolfo Reyes.

Manuel deja para atesorar su memoria a su amada esposa de casi 52 años, Eva Aguilera de Reyes; tres hijos: Joel Reyes, Manuel Reyes Jr. y Daniel Reyez (esposa Emily Gómez); dos hijas: Brenda Torres (esposo Javier Torres) y Julieta Reyes; cuatro nietos: Viviana Torres, Valeria Torres, Oscar Daniel Reyez y Adolfo Reyes; y muchos familiares y queridos amigos. Siempre sera recordado con cariño. 

Los que sirven como portadores del féretro son Joel Reyes, Daniel Reyez, Javier Torres, Fernando Reyes, Rigoberto Reyes y Alejandro Guzman.
