Mareta Lou Pittman Reese

Mareta Lou Pittman, 88, of Oregan, passed away Friday, September 5, 2025 in Eugene, Oregon.  A graveside service will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. at Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton, Texas.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. of Perryton, Texas.

Mareta Lou Pittman (88) was born to Alfred and Allene (Thurman) Pittman in Perryton Texas. She also had a sister, Maresa who was 5 years older in age. Mareta graduated from Perryton High School in 1955 where she was actively involved in school and the community. She met Raleigh Reese Jr. in 1953 while working at Burk’s Drug Store in Perryton. They dated 2 years before getting married. Along with her family she attended 1st Christian Church while growing up and had a strong lifelong relationship with the Lord. Mareta’s family were some of the earliest settlers in Ochiltree County. Her Grandmother, Mrs. E.R. (Whippo) Thurman was less than a year old when she accompanied her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Whippo to Ochiltree County in 1887. 

In 1969, Mareta, Raleigh and their 4 children moved to Eugene, Oregon. A 5th child, a son was born there in 1972. Even though she lived in Oregon most of her life, many of Mareta’s fondest memories were growing up in Perryton surrounded by Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, cousins and schoolmates. Mareta will be remembered as being an incredibly creative, funny and wonderful friend to all and will be greatly missed by anyone who had the privilege of knowing her. 

Raleigh passed away December 23rd, 2021 and both Raleigh and Mareta will be buried in Ochiltree County Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Raleigh and Mareta are survived by 5 children and their spouses. Raleigh III and Connie Reese, Leslie and Bruce Walker, Paige and David Hart, Shannon and Bill Coffin and Patrick and Katie Reese. The have 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Raleigh is survived by a sister Fran Guynes of Denton, Texas.
