Raymond's Obituary

Raymond J. Moore, 70, of Stronghurst, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born May 23, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of Raymond and Billie Jean (Stuart) Moore. On July 12, 1991, in Gladstone, Illinois, he married Peggy Pulse.

At the age of 19, Ray started out on his own as an over-the-road truck driver, driving from coast to coast. In 2014, Ray became a co-founder and operator of D.A. Moore Trucking LLC. in Stronghurst with his son Daniel (founder). Together, they grew the company to an 18-truck fleet with over 30 employees. His passion for hauling and driving across the country lasted for 52 years, until his passing.

When he left on the road, he couldn't get home fast enough; his entire world was his family. Ray's hours on the road trucking were sometimes long and hard, but it was all worth every mile to him, for he knew his family was the reason and he knew they were taken care of.

From dinner dates and rides through the country with his best friend and wife, Peggy, to spending every minute possible with his kids, Daniel and Annjeanette, Ray was the real definition of a family man.

He was so proud of each one of his children and his grandchildren; they brought him the most joy. Ray was a man of faith and believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal savior.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; son Daniel (Amanda Van Arsdale) Moore; daughter Annjeanette (Johnny) Ryffel, all of Stronghurst; daughter Ashley (Nick Sage) Link of Monmouth and her daughter Carlee (Ryan Neff) Link and their children Camden and Stetson; son Jeff Moore and his children Teresa, Jake, Landyn, Layne, and Jaedyn; and sister Regina Minard. Also surviving are Paul and Gloria Kershner, who were like parents to him, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Peggy, brother John, son Raymond "Rayme," and granddaughter Courtney.

The funeral service for Ray will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Lunning Chapel.

A two-hour visitation will be held prior to the service, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, where the family will meet with friends. Interment will be held in Stronghurst Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in his memory for the MST Fire Department and Stronghurst Ambulance Service.
