Margaret's Obituary

Margaret Elaine Kroes (nee Gregory), 76, of Wichita Falls, TX was sent to her eternal home on October 31, 2025, after 5 weeks of battling pancreatic cancer.

Margaret was born on June 19, 1949 to the late Ruby Louise (nee Walter) and William Drummond Gregory in Shell Lake, WI.  She was married for 56 years (together for 59 years) to the love of her life Roger Kroes.

Margaret grew up the oldest sister of 4 children in a home full of love on a dairy farm in Northern Wisconsin. It was here that she learned the value of hard work as well as how to garden, cook, and take care of others before herself. Margaret worshipped God alongside her family and grew up with strong morals. She attended Spooner High School where she graduated as salutatorian in 1966. She then attended University of Wisconsin- Stout in Menomonie, WI where she met and fell in love with her husband Roger. Margaret and Roger had a lot of good times at Stout where they frequently hunted, hiked and rode motorcycles. She was married to Roger on May 31, 1969 in Spooner, WI. Margaret then graduated from Stout with a Bachelor’s in home economics and business in 1970. Prior to having children, she worked as a dietician.

After graduation, the merry go round of life began as Margaret would have put it. She had 3 sons and 1 daughter, moved 11 times, lived in 8 different states, and owned 7 different houses. Margaret wore many hats. First and foremost she devoted her life to her 4 children and her husband. She never missed an important event, tucked us in every night, always kept our bellies full, and was never too busy to play. She really was the best mom ever. In addition to that, she adored gardening, sewing, baking, hiking, bird watching, being out on the lake and camping. Margaret had a green thumb and plants thrived under her care, something she has passed on to all of her children. She loved being outdoors in nature surrounded by her family. Margaret was also known for her savvy stock choices and wise financial decisions, which many people would consult with her on.

Margaret was also a member of the local Major Francis Grice chapter of Daughters of American Revolution. She volunteered many hours of time to the Northwest Texas Field and Stream Association and frequently mentored girls hunting and fishing trips. She enjoyed swimming weekly with close friends at the Wellness Center.

Margaret is survived by her husband Roger of Wichita Falls; her sons, Calvin (Chelsea) of Loveland, OK; Daniel (Katie) of Baton Rouge, LA; and Greg (Beth) of Bevier, MO; her daughter Crystal (Kevin Shrewsberry) of Lake Charles, LA; her brother Walter (Suzanne) Gregory of Maple Grove, MN; as well as her sister Elizabeth (Steve) Strabel of Portage, WI. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Ruby and father, William. She is also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Wilma Johnson, who she missed dearly.

Visitation will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 6 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025 at the funeral home, Pastor Chad Stubblefield, officiating Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park Cemetery in Wichita Falls under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.     The family would like to thank UT Southwestern Medical Center, MD Anderson (Dr. Robert Wolff), Dr. Praveen Reddy, and Hospice of Wichita Falls for their loving care.
