Margery's Obituary

Margery Moss Tyler

On September 28, 1935, the stars appeared a little brighter and hearts rejoiced with the birth of Margery Moss Tyler in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. On Tuesday, October 7, 2025 the stars dimmed and hearts were hurting as Margie passed on. The 90 years between celebrated a life of caring, exploring, learning, sharing and love.

Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.

Margery was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Mabel Moss, sister-in-law Marcia Moss, and dear friends Jane Carney and Judy Bruner. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William H. Tyler of Chesterfield, Missouri, sons William J. Tyler of Huntington Beach, California and Daniel Moss Tyler of Leawood, Kansas and daughter-in-law Jill Moran Tyler, brother James E. Moss of San Diego, California and sister-in-law Tonnie Moss, grandchildren James, Dannan, Clover and Owen Tyler and her miniature Schnauzer, Captain Murphy. She also will be dearly missed by brother and sister-in-law Robert R. Tyler and Marilyn Tyler of Sioux City, Iowa and niece Amanda Moss Mazerosky and nephew James Moss of Poplar Bluff and her many close friends. Margery cared deeply for the feelings of everyone, and sought to bring joy to all she met. She loved to laugh, which was often and contagious.

Margie attended William Woods College and graduated with a B.S. in Education from the University of Missouri, Columbia, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity. She worked as secretary to the Business Manager of the University while her husband finished studies for his degrees. They then moved to Kirkwood, Missouri when Bill started his advertising career in St. Louis.

In addition to being a loving parent very active in her sons' educations, Margie served as a member of the Volunteer Service Council, the Ruth Kelso Renfrow Art Club and on the board of the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments.

When her husband joined the faculty at Saint Louis University, she became a member of the University Library Association, and as president of the St. Louis Area Delta Gamma Alumnae, was instrumental in helping establish a student chapter at the University.

In 1977, the Tyler family moved to Santa Barbara, California and Margie became active in Peanut Gallery, a children's theater production company. Both children later would be involved in the movie and television industry. When the family moved back to Town & County, Missouri in 1982, Margie was a supportive parent for the Parkway West Marching Band, which won national championships at the Citrus and Fiesta Bowls.

Margie also was an officer of Assistance League of St. Louis, a member of P.E.O. and for the past 25 years an actively contributing member and officer in the Wednesday Club of St. Louis.

Margie and husband Bill loved to travel, most often planning and touring on their own throughout Europe. They "lived" in Spain several months when her husband taught at the SLU Madrid campus for two summer sessions, and in the Scandinavian countries, sharing an apartment with Margie's brother and his wife in Stockholm, Sweden. Other favorite trips included Ireland, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Canada, Nova Scotia, Iceland, Mexico and Costa Rica, plus all 50 of the United States.

Favorite memories of Margie's love and laughter will live on with dear friends and family - memories of family vacations and pool parties and Lake of the Ozark weekends and miniature Schnauzers - and holidays, especially Christmas. For years Margie collected ornaments during travels and decorated with a Christmas tree in every room of her home - with as many as 12 trees brightening the holidays and everyone's spirits every year.

Stars dim, hearts hurt and tears flow, but the warmth you left for us remains. Thank you, Margery, for being in our lives.
