Maria Antoinette Graves, 54, affectionately known as “Frazier,” passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was born on January 27, 1971, in Buffalo, New York, to Alberta Graves and the late Rev. Guy Graves.
From the moment she entered this world, Maria was a light. Her father lovingly nicknamed her “Frazier” after the great boxer Joe Frazier—because even as a child, she had a fighter’s heart. That name became a reflection of her life’s journey. No matter what challenges she faced—spiritually, mentally, or physically—Maria met them with unwavering faith, courage, and strength.
Maria was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her loving mother, Alberta Graves; her devoted children, Natalia Smith and Allen Smith Jr.; and her adored grandchildren, Isaiah Smith and Isabella Carmichael, who were her greatest joys. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings, Rev. Sharon, Gwendolyn Peoples, Kimberly Y. Graves, and Rev. John Young; as well as a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who loved her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Guy Graves; her grandmother, Roberta Pope; and her big brother, Guy Graves Jr.
Maria’s life was a beautiful testimony of faith, perseverance, and love. She was a lifelong learner with a deep passion for helping others. Whether through a kind word, a listening ear, or a heartfelt prayer, she touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her gentle nature and quiet strength made others feel seen, valued, and loved.
Her faith in God was the cornerstone of her life. Maria spent countless hours reading her Bible, studying the Word, and finding peace and purpose through her relationship with the Lord. Even in times of hardship, she remained steadfast in her belief that God was in control. Her unwavering faith inspired those around her and became a living example of grace under pressure.
Outside of her devotion to family and faith, Maria found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching movies, laughing with her grandchildren, and playing her favorite pastime, what she fondly called her “fish game.” Her laughter could light up a room, and her presence brought comfort and peace wherever she went.
Those who knew Maria would describe her as kind, compassionate, patient, and deeply understanding. She had a way of making everyone feel like family. Her love was unconditional, her words were gentle, and her heart was pure.
Maria “Frazier” Graves was truly one of a kind. She faced life’s battles with dignity and courage, always holding on to her faith and her love for those around her. She never allowed illness or hardship to define her or take away her joy. Instead, she used every challenge as an opportunity to show others what true strength looks like—a strength rooted in love, faith, and perseverance.
Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the love she poured into her family and community. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will continue to guide, comfort, and inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Maria will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a woman of faith, strength, and boundless love. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”— 2 Timothy 4:7
