Marianeta "Maria"'s Obituary

Marianeta “Maria” Sepulveda, 54, of Des Plaines passed away on August 14, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones.

Maria was born on January 2, 1971 in Chicago, IL, to parents Andreas Ballas and Anna Martinez (Bertini). She later moved to Des Plaines, Illinois with her loving husband, Andres, where she continued to raise her family. Maria was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Susan (Jose) and Jackie (Ian), who were her pride and joy.

Maria was known for her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time in her garden with her beloved, barky dog, Summer. Family was always her top priority, and she showed this through her willingness to travel long distances—whether to Santiago, Chile or Kefalonia, Greece—to be with loved ones. These places brought her immense joy and deeply inspired her cooking, filling her kitchen with the vibrant flavors and traditions of the cultures she held close to her heart.

Maria was preceded in death by her father, Andreas Ballas, aunt Carol Manzella, and uncle Mario Manzella. She is survived by her husband Andres Sepulveda, daughters Susan Sepulveda (Jose Esquivel) and Jackie Sepulveda (Ian Chenoweth), mother Anna Martinez, sister Tina Ballas, and grandsons Julian and Alexander Esquivel.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 17, 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., with Trisagion at 6:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 Talcott Rd. Park Ridge.
