Marianne's Obituary

Marianne Schneider, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 19, 2025.

Born on April 16, 1938, in Weilburg, Germany, to her parents Hermann and Maria Weil, Marianne often shared vivid recollections of her childhood during World War II. She often shared these stories with family, who will cherish her strength and perspective forever.

In 1984, she married Robert “Bob” Schneider, and they made their home together in DeKalb. Bob preceded her in death in October 2013. During their retirement years, Marianne and Bob found great joy in spending time with their granddaughter, Emily Garvey, creating countless treasured memories together and showering her with love.

Marianne became a proud U.S. citizen in 1971 and worked in various roles throughout her life, always finding joy in serving others. She graduated from the School of Cosmetology and delighted in making clients feel beautiful and cared for. Later, she pursued further education at Kishwaukee Community College, where she was honored by induction into Phi Theta Kappa.

Those who knew Marianne remember her as a woman of warmth, generosity, and humor. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, whether a lifelong friend or someone she had just met. Her beloved toy poodles were always close by, but it was her love for her family and friends that defined her life. She was the kind of person whose kindness lingered long after a conversation ended, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by two children from her first marriage, Nelson F. (Charlene) Kepner and Mary Sue (“Suzie” to Marianne) Kepner (Garrison); two granddaughters, Emily (Shaugnessy) Garvey and Kelley (Marissa) Trujillo; and one great-grandson, who brought her immeasurable joy over the past six years, Rorric Liam Neil Garvey.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Finch Funeral Home, located at 310 Oak St., DeKalb, IL. Family and friends are invited to come and pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Tails Humane Society of DeKalb Illinois https://tailshumanesociety.networkforgood.com/projects/176755-donate-today
