Marie's Obituary

Marie (Chapman) Thornbury departed this life for her heavenly home on March 18, 2026. She was born on September 12, 1936, to the late General and Nancy (Varney) Chapman, one of fourteen children.

She was a graduate of Belfry High School, where she also worked as a cook until she retired. She was always remembered as the lady who gave extra. She was a member of the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Her most important roles will always be a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family being together, there was always laughter. She enjoyed her days with the love of her life, sitting on the porch, bird watching and tending to her yard (which had all of her “pretties”). She loved going camping in the summer and finding good deals at the flea market.

Including her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Herbert Thornbury. She is survived by her three sons, Stephen Herbert (Angie) Thornbury, Timothy (Teresa) Thornbury and Mark (Jeanetta) Thornbury; her siblings, Dee (Jenny) Chapman and Doug (Lillian) Chapman, her cherished grandchildren, Shannon (Kelli) Dotson, Meghan (Joshua) Cobb, Ryan (Cydney) Thornbury, Brandon (Audrey) Thornbury, Amy (Daniel) Martin and Eric (Ariel) Thornbury; her treasured great grandbabies, Kamdon, Kenzie, Brody, Kyndel, Caroline, Blaine, Scout, Aubrey, Allie, Kambrya, Owen, and Zetta Harlynn Mae. Marie also leaves behind a host of other loving family members and friends.

Marie’s funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, beginning at 1 PM with David Allen Thacker and David May officiating. Burial will follow at the Thornbury Cemetery in Canada, KY, with Ryan Thornbury, Shannon Dotson, Brandon Thornbury, Eric Thornbury, Joshua Cobb, Daniel Martin, Kamdon Meredith and Brody Dotson serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the funeral home from 6-9 PM, with special service being held at 7 PM. R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, KY is serving the Thornbury family.
