Mark McGargill, age 87, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026.
Born on May 20, 1938, Mark lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to family, faith, education, and service to his country.
He was born in Shenandoah, Iowa, and raised on a farm in Imogene, Iowa. He attended Campion High School, an all-boys boarding school in Wisconsin. He was also a proud graduate of Marquette University, where he developed the values and work ethic that guided him throughout his life.
He proudly served as a pilot in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1965, demonstrating courage, discipline, and commitment during his years of military service.
Following his Navy service, Mark enjoyed a distinguished 35-year career as a commercial airline pilot with Trans World Airlines (TWA). He served as Captain of the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, earning the respect of colleagues and passengers alike for his professionalism, leadership, and calm command of the skies.
Mark shared 58 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dorothy Bottel McGargill. Their marriage was a lasting example of devotion, partnership, and commitment, and together they built a life centered on love and family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory McGargill.
He is survived by his sons, Scott McGargill and Steve McGargill (Betty); and his granddaughter, Adelaide McGargill.
Mark will be remembered for his strength of character, kindness, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and in the family he cherished.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Hemet. Burial will be Saturday, March 28, at 12:00 pm at the Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery in Fallbrook.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark’s memory to Mercy Ships or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
