Mark's Obituaries

It is with great sadness that Michael R. Sobon and Joan M. Sobon announce the passing of their son Mark C. Sobon on April 27th, 2025. Born on May 11th, 1970, Mark spent his life in South Hadley, MA. Mark was a skilled hockey player for the Pioneers League of Springfield during his youth. His mother Joan always eagerly cheered him on from the sidelines with her cowbell. It was during his time on the team that Mark met many of his lifelong friends. Mark attended Western New England College after his graduation from South Hadley High School in 1988. He would go on to work alongside his father at O’Connell Oil Associates where the two enjoyed many years of coffee meetings together. Mark would eventually become Senior Vice President at O’Connell as well as the owner of Bottom Line Oil. Known for his love of good food, Mark enjoyed fine dining. He shared this passion with family and friends through his skillfully crafted home cooked meals and spot-on restaurant recommendations. What he loved the most was cooking alongside his mother and learning many treasured family recipes. You could expect to see Mark donning an apron during the holidays. An adventurous spirit, Mark frequently traveled and found joy in seeing and experiencing the world. He could often be found watching B-rated horror films or “cheesy” true crime television and was a die-hard fan of The Doors. His childlike nature often shone through with his love for magic tricks and his ability to engage in play with his children and grandchildren.                                   Mark would agree that his best accomplishments were his three amazing children: Caralyn Williams, Mara Childs (Max), and Nicholas Sobon. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Sophia, Noah, Hunter, Finn, and Mila; his brother Michael D. Sobon; uncle John Gaudrault (Theresa); aunt Kristine Fontaine (Raymond); longtime partner Wendy Kelleher; and several cousins, extended family members, friends, and loved ones. Mark is predeceased by his beloved grandparents Raymond and Rose Gaudrault, and Leo and Mary Sobon; uncle James “Jimmy” Gaudrault; and uncle Leon Sobon (Dorothy). He will be missed dearly. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1st, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in South Hadley from 9:00-11:00 am with funeral service to directly follow. The burial will take place immediately after at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery (152 Pittroff Ave, South Hadley, MA 01075). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Providence Ministries for the Needy Inc. (51 Hamilton St, Holyoke, MA 01040).  The O’Brien Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. For more information or to make online condolences, please go to obrienfamilyfh.com.
