It’s been awhile since I have talked with Mark but we worked together at Unit Rail/Amsted. Mark always had a kind word and was enjoyable to be around. To Beth and the kids I am so sorry! Please accept my condolences.

One of the nicest people I ever had the pleasure of knowing. I will miss his laugher and his energy. He certainly loved his family and it showed with and through everything he did.

Mark Phillip Wilson, a beloved husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and dear friend to many, passed unexpectedly on August 15th, 2025. He was born on February 26th, 1964, in Atchison, KS, the son of the late Phillip and Anna Christine (Sigrist) Wilson. He is a graduate of Atchison High School and earned his bachelor’ and master’ degrees from Benedictine College.
Mark married Beth Sittenauer on April 29th, 1989, at St. Joseph’ Catholic Church in Nortonville, KS. Together, they have shared over 36 years of marriage, creating their family and memories that will last forever.
After graduating from Benedictine College, Mark briefly worked for the Audit Bureau of Circulations in Chicago before returning to Atchison. He worked briefly for Benedictine College as the Assistant Controller before joining Vic Auto Plaza as the Controller. He then joined Unit Rail Anchor Company where he worked as the Controller, and then manager of Human Resources following a merger with Amsted Industries, altogether for more than 22 years. During his time at Unit Rail, he periodically taught at Benedictine College. He later worked for St. Joseph Petroleum before joining Anderson Metals, Inc. as their V.P. of Finance. Mark then worked for Atchison County, and for the past three years, worked for Tate Plumbing & Construction as an inventory controller.
Mark loved to spend time with family and extended family, especially his granddaughter, Ellie. He was completely devoted to his family and always put them first, no matter what. He loved going on family trips as his children were growing up, and more recently, with various members of the immediate and extended family to many different destinations. He enjoyed reading in the evenings, especially with their dog Frankie resting next to him. Most recently he loved to float in the pool watching his granddaughter laugh and play. Mark enjoyed cooking a variety of meals for the entire family, always ensuring there was more than enough to go around.
Mark was a member of multiple organizations in the community. To name a few, he was a long-standing member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church as a cantor, a lector, and the church’s finance council. He was also a member of the Nortonville Knights of Columbus, the Jefferson County North High School Site Council, and F.W. Huston’s Hospital Foundation.
Mark is survived by his wife, Beth Wilson; three children, Spencer Wilson, Sean (Elizabeth) Wilson, and Chelsey Wilson (fiancé, Dominic Menolascino); one granddaughter, Ellie Wilson, three sisters, Vicki (Steven) Tate, Phyllis Susan (Ricardo) Robles, Brenda Callahan; brother, Thomas (Julie) Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, August 21st, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Nortonville, con-celebrated by Abbot James Albers, O.S.B. and Fr. William Dun-Dery. A parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be held on Wednesday, August 20th at 5:30 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow from 6-7:30 p.m. Mark will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Nortonville. Memorials may be left to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or JCN to be designated to Special Education needs at the school in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
