Christine was born on October 7, 1932 near Clarksville in Red River County, Texas. She was a cherished daughter of Louis Posey and Martha Estella Taylor Jeffers. She married Charlie L. Cavener of Dundee on July 15, 1948. They enjoyed getting together with friends often and playing 42. She was well known for her baked goods and always had something sweet for visitors. She would take requests from her grandsons for their birthdays, sometimes even from their friends, and later when they moved away. She found great joy in gathering around her kitchen table with friends and family and talking until the wee hours of the morning.
She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Holliday, Texas in her later years. Before that she faithfully attended Dundee Baptist Church for over 70 years. She rarely missed a Sunday because she enjoyed being in community with other believers. Sunday school was just as important to her as Sunday service. It was where she found her love of the scriptures and bonded with other women. Christine was the matriarch and her faith was strong. She instilled that at an early age in her daughters by raising them in the faith. Her unwaving faith set an example for her husband, Charlie who later came to know Christ.
Christine worked at Dillards in Wichita Falls, Texas for 27 years where she sold handbags for almost the entirety of that time. To the delight of her daughters, she often gifted those handbags for special occasions. She formed many deep lasting friendships with fellow employees that lasted well beyond her retirement in 2003.
She was also an active member of the Red River Quilters Guild, where her talent for quilting earned her several awards. Her quilts, crafted with love and skill, brought warmth and beauty to many lives. Many hours were spent quilting alongside other woman that brought her deep connections and lasting friendships here as well.
Christine’s greatest love was her 4 grandsons and her great grandchildren. She rarely missed anything they had going on, and especially enjoyed watching them win at any sporting event. Christine LOVED to win, a trait she learned from her 4 oldest brothers, and a trait her great-grandchildren learned at an early age while playing wahoo with her because she wouldn't take it easy on them. She played 42 weekly in her last years at the Holliday Senior Citizens Building where she still had an ability to win the game she loved. Her fellow players acknowledged and poked fun at her about her ability to still be able to "set them up", and she grinned and enjoyed every bit of that recognition.
Christine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie of almost 43 years; her parents, Louis Posey and Martha Estella Taylor Jeffers; her brothers, Dean, Nowlin, Gilbert and SL Jeffers; and her sisters, Betty Lue Jeffers Wright and Evelyn Jeffers Hopper.
She is survived by her daughters, Dianna Kennedy and husband Jimmy, and Charlene Nunley and husband Charles; her grandsons, Matt Kennedy, Chad Kennedy and wife Jenny, Chance Kennedy and wife Haley and Charles Cody Wooten; her great-grandchildren, Jack, Maggie, Estella, Charlie, Cooper and Callan Kennedy; her sister, Delores Moore and husband Robert of Amarillo; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The family extends their appreciation for the care given by the nurses and the staff of Hospice Wichita Falls. Their care went beyond what was required and we will be forever grateful. Memorial contributions can be made to Dundee Cemetery Association P.O. Box 1037 Holliday, Texas 76366.
Christine’s love, warmth, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
