Martha Edwards Tuning, 88, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, of natural causes in her home surrounded by her family. Born on March 2, 1937, to the late Wiley J Edwards and Ola Edwards in Franklin County, Virginia, she attended public schools and earned her GED from Franklin County Public Schools in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
Martha was a loving and faithful homemaker. She was a proud member of First Baptist Rocky Mount, where she served as a Deaconess, a member of the Missionary and Ladies Auxiliary, and a choir member. Like her husband, Clarence, who preceded her in death, Martha enjoyed participating in the Kimball High School Association, travelling with the Yesteryear Antique and Classic Car Club, and showing their 1950 Mercury. She also enjoyed shopping, decorating, and taking care of her plants. Most of all, she loved her role as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Martha is survived by; one daughter, Alicia K. Tuning of Lynchburg, Virginia; three sons, Clarence R. Tuning, Jr. of Newport News, Virginia, Jeffrey L. (Cheryl) Tuning of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Philip L. (Sarah) Tuning of Ankeny, Iowa; two sisters, Patsy Helms of RockyMount, Virginia and Ollie Brooks of Rocky Mount, Virginia; four granddaughters, Share’ Tuning of Roanoke, Virginia, Alexandra York of Lynchburg, Virginia, Na’imah Al-Azeez of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Courtney Tuning of Des Moines, Iowa; one grandson, Ramadan Carr of Lynchburg, Virginia; and seven great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
On Thursday, July 10, 2025, services will be held at First Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. The Rev. Christopher M. Coates will officiate. The interment will take placeat Franklin Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Serenity Funeral Home, Roanoke, VA.
