Martha's Obituary

Martha Jennings Hamner, 66, of Warrenton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025.

Born on June 20, 1959, in Washington DC to Edward and Roberta Jennings, Martha was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and a beloved friend. She is survived by her husband, James “Pete” Hamner; her children, Courtney Brown, Kelly Van Wingerden, and Jack Hamner; and her grandchildren, Kinley Brown, Skylar Brown, Blake Van Wingerden, and Charlotte Van Wingerden. She is also survived by her siblings Cathe McGowan, Bob Jennings, and John Jennings, and was preceded in death by her sister, Ellen Jennings.

Martha was known for her boundless compassion, adventurous spirit, and remarkable strength. She faced life’s challenges with courage and grace, always putting the needs of her loved ones first. As a mother, she ensured her children always felt loved and supported, and as a grandmother, she delighted in sharing everyday moments with her grandchildren: riding them to swim practice, making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, greeting them after school, and enjoying snack boards together.

She found joy in simple pleasures, from bike rides with Pete and grandchildren, to lunches with family and friends, and trips to the movies with Pete. Martha and Pete loved the Lord, worshipped and were members of Heritage Baptist Church in Woodbridge.  Martha also loved the water and the outdoors; some of her happiest memories were spent with family and friends at their Lake Gaston home, and she treasured a special trip to Marco Island to visit her best friend, Colleen O’Rourke. She was also a great businesswoman, running Homescope Inspection Services alongside her husband Pete and growing the business to great success. Her generous spirit, warmth, and devotion to family left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

A service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held on August 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, 14510 Spriggs Road, Woodbridge Va. 22193.   All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
