Martha Shashura

Martha Shashura, age 82, of Portage, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017. She was born in West Brownsville, PA on April 26, 1934 to the late Joseph and Bertha (nee Karlock) Benko. Martha had a strong faith and was a very involved member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church in Portage. She was a great cook and cherished her travels abroad. Martha will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.Martha is survived by son, George David (Diane) Shashura; daughters, Kim (Dominic) Moffo, Colleen (Alan) Kotso; grandchildren, Alexander Westerfield, Erin (Brandon) Fox, Christopher (Catherine) Moffo, Joseph (Jenna) Moffo, Allyse ( fiancé, Ryan McDermott) Kotso; great grandchild, Nola Fox; brothers, Joseph (Eleanor) Benko, Emery (Barbara) Benko; sisters, Mary (Jim) St Germain, Nora (Ron) Craig; and faithful caregiver, Kathyrn Thomas.She was preceded in death by her husband, George Shashura; brothers, Michael and John Benko; sisters, Elizabeth Owczarczak, Margaret Schaivi, Helen Lock, Barbara Dzierzawski; and her parents.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Martha's honor, to the VNA 2401 Valley Dr, Valparaiso, IN 46383, American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 15829 Arlington, VA 2221 or an organization of your choice.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage, IN 46368 with Rev. Andrew J. Corona officiating. Martha will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. A visitation will take place just prior to mass from 9-10 am at the church.
