Mr. Marvin Randolph Pulliam, Jr., age 83, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at a local hospital. Mr. Pulliam was born in Floyd County, Georgia on May 10, 1932, son of the late Marvin Randolph Pulliam, Sr. and the late Viola Roberson Pulliam. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Bonnie Wadsworth, Faye Minter, and Lois Land, and by a brother, Donald Pulliam. Mr. Pulliam was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and was injured in the explosion of the aircraft carrier Leyte. He was a member of the American Legion Post #5 and the Floyd Springs Lodge #167 F.&A.M. Prior to retirement, Mr. Pulliam worked as a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service. Survivors include his wife, Faye Atkins; two grandsons, Damon Purdy and his wife, Jessica and Colin Purdy and his wife, Amanda; four great grandchildren, Darren, Khloe, Brayden and Katie Purdy; a sister, Thelma Vincent; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 2pm at Morning View Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Anderson will officiate with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors and the Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge presenting Masonic honors. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 12:30pm until 1:30pm. At other hours, they will be at their respective residences. Both active and honorary pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday at 1pm and include: Active: Levi Scherer, Robert Lambert, Kenneth Knight, Herbert Harper, Pete Ware, and Gene Cranford. Honorary: Marion Carter. There will be a called communication of the Floyd Springs Lodge #167 on Saturday at 12:30pm for the purpose of attending the graveside service.
