Not sure what to say?

Dear Dvorak family- I was sorry to read of Mary Ann's death. I worked at LDSH with her since 1987. Every year, she'd bring in kolaches for all of us from St. Ludmila. She was such a dedicated and loyal part of our team. It was an honor to work alongside her all these years. Bill Stone

I worked with Mary Ann from the day I started as a young attorney at Lynch Dallas in 1969. She had a wealth of knowledge and so willing to help me along when I needed guidance. She was super smart and everyone loved working with her. I have so many great memories of her. My thoughts go out to her family.

Mary Ann was a very close friend and colleague of my father Ed Beatty for as long as I can remember. My father frequently said Mary Ann “knew the business of LDS&H better than all of the staff and most of the attorneys”. The professional partnership between Mary Ann and my father was truly remarkable. Simply stated - she was considered one of the family.

Our thoughts and prayers will be with Mary Ann’s family and friends.

Kevin, Craig, Jeff, along with all your families. My sincere condolences on the loss of your Mom. She was a wonderful person. Mary Ann & Ernie did a great job raising you guys. My thoughts and prayers for all of you in this difficult time.

Mary Ann's Obituary

Mary Ann was born December 24, 1931 to Fred and Emma (Dlouhy) Pirkl on the family farm in Johnson County, Iowa. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1949 and was united in marriage on September 11, 1950 to Ernest (Ernie) Dvorak Jr. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mary Ann and Ernie built the house that they raised their three boys in Fairfax, Iowa in 1958. Mary Ann was employed at Lynch Dallas Smith & Harmon Law Firm as a legal secretary for over 50 years. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital in her younger years.

Her family would call her the hardest worker they know- a working mom raising three boys, hosting Christmas celebrations with everyone’s favorite cookies, caring for her husband during his long-term illness, and living in her home independently until April 2025. Mary Ann dearly loved her family, especially doting upon her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She could be found sitting along many sidelines and show choir concerts, supporting her grandchildren in their many endeavors. Her family brought such joy to her life and she loved having everyone together under one roof to celebrate holidays and share meals. She was well-known for her baking, especially her pretzel salad, fruit pizza, and apple slices, which she shared with family, friends, and her church community often. She loved spending time in her garden, enjoying flowers and the labors of lawn work.

Mary Ann is survived by sons, Kevin (Janelle), Craig (Rachel), and Jeffrey (Julie); grandchildren, Andrea (Charlie) Koller, Mitchell Dvorak, Caitlin Dvorak, Micah Dvorak; great-granddaughter, Greta Koller; step-grandchildren, Carla Merical and Michael Merical; step-great-grandchildren, Chase Hammond, Khloe Glass, Ryder Merical, Max Merical, Maddie Merical; brother, Hal Pirkl (Janis); nieces, Julie Pirkl, Cindy Dvorak, Gwen Dvorak, Carla (Ed) Neuhaus, June (Herman) Andalcio; nephews, Loren (Melissa) Lippmann and Larry Lippmann; and many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Dvorak Jr. on December 5, 2000; parents, Fred and Emma Pirkl; sister, Evelyn Lippmann and sister in infancy, Bernice Pirkl; brother-in-law and sister in-law, George and Angie Dvorak; niece, Jody Lippmann; and nephews, Randy Dvorak and Les Dvorak.
