Mary Lou Bacon was born on March 7th, 1936, the only child of Oliver T. and Mary Louise Scott at a home in Northwest Ardmore Oklahoma. Mary shed her earth suit and slipped away to be with Jesus forever on November 5th, 2025.
Mary grew up in Ardmore and graduated from Ardmore High School in 1954. She continued her education at Draughn’s Business School. Mary held secretarial positions at several local companies including Hardy Sanitarium, Hudson Houston Lumber Company and Philips Petroleum.
Mary met Ray Bacon, her lifelong love and husband of 67 years and 9 months at Ardmore High School. They dated for a period of time but it was not until Ray was home on leave from the Air Force that they reunited and began to talk of marriage. The sweethearts married on February 1st 1957 and began their new life together. Mary placed her full attention on family as she and Ray raised their two children, David and John, in Ardmore.
Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She adored new experiences. Without hesitation, she was up for traveling, going to the show, out to eat or any adventure she that involved family and friends. Throughout her life, Mary participated in a wide array of activities like fishing, camping, croquet, miniature golf, badminton, playing bridge and watching the Dallas Cowboys just to name a few. Most of all she loved interior decorating with a keen eye for arranging colors, shapes and textures to create a harmonious and inviting space.
Mary had a deep faith and trust in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church in Ardmore and was always delighted to be surrounded by her dear Church family. She was also involved in other Chistian fellowships including the House of Prayer where she volunteered in the Food Pantry Ministry. Mary Lou also enjoyed being a part of the Ardmore Bide-A-Wee club with her many close friends whom she cherished.
Mary was bent toward the Arts at an early age. She learned to play the piano and site read music as a child, and she learned and performed dance as a student at Ardmore High School. Mary was also a student of the Betty Brown School of Dance. She instinctively brought Music, Dance, and Theatre into her home, which had a major influence on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s lives.
Her essence was one of a simple, innocent love for others – she felt people deeply. She adorned a pure-hearted sweetness that family, friends and strangers alike connected with instantly. The twinkle of acceptance in her eyes and the delight she took in others drew everyone towards her. For this reason, Mary accumulated many close friends in school, work, church, her assisted living home and beyond. She was special and loved by everyone she connected with.
Mary Lou Bacon is survived by her Husband Ray Bacon, her two sons David and John, her brother-in-law Kenneth Bacon, grandchildren Christopher Harrell, Amy George, Casey Drew Bacon, and Sarah Nicole Bacon.
