Mary's Obituary

Mary Belle (Bair) Ginter, 92, died peacefully Saturday, November 15, 2025, in Punxsutawney at the AM/PM Personal Care Home. She had lived in the Williamsport area most of her life, raising flocks of sheep at her farm along Northway Road Extension and later in Rose Valley. 

Born on July 22, 1933, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of William W. and Elsie V. (Holmes) Bair. 

Mary graduated from Williamsport Area High School in 1951 and from the Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 as a Registered Nurse. On December 29, 1954, she married George C. Ginter, Jr. in the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church, Williamsport.

Mary had a vibrant zest for life and dearly loved her family, farm, animals (sheep, dogs and cats etc.), church, community, flowers, herbs and fiber arts (sewing, cross stitch, quilting, knitting, spinning, & weaving). She was a member of the Balls Mills United Methodist Church, where she served on most of the church committees, helped with many of the service projects, such as the apple butter & strawberry ice cream festivals, and sang in the church choir. Other memberships include the Balls Mills United Methodist Church Quilters, Susquehanna Valley Quilt Guild, Williamsport Herb Guild, Blooming Grove Historical Society, Susquehanna Valley Spinners and Weavers Guild and the Williamsport Hospital Auxiliary. Mary and her spinning and weaving enthusiasts competed in the Sheep to Shawl Contest at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show in addition to entering and judging weaving and quilting contests at county fairs in northcentral Pennsylvania.

Among the survivors are children Ruth Grube (Jeff) of Punxsutawney; Donna Palmer of Gibsonia; George Alan Ginter (Leslie) of Blacksburg, Va.; and Timothy Ginter (Sonia) of Pearisburg, Va. Also surviving are six grandchildren Michael Grube (Courtney) of Punxsutawney; Melissa Means (Kyle) of Easton, Md.; Casey Palmer (Phil McLaughlin) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Carly Palmer of Pittsburgh; Colleen Tesoriero (Josh) of Yuma, Ariz.; and Francis Palmer of Eagar, Ariz. Mary is also survived by nieces Sandy Lankart (Mike) and Linda Baily (Tom), both of Jersey Shore, as well as three great-grandchildren Mackenzie Means, Samantha Means and Benjamin Grube.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George C. Ginter, Jr., in 2018 and sister, Beryl M. Magyar in 2020.

Memorial Services will be held in the Balls Mills United Methodist Church, 5941 Bloomingrove Road, Cogan Station PA 17728 at a later date to be announced. Interment will be held in a private ceremony in Pleasant Hills Cemetery in Hughesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to James V. Brown Library, 19 E 4th St. Williamsport, PA 17701, the Balls Mills United Methodist Church, 5941 Bloomingrove Rd. Cogan Station PA 17728 or the Blooming Grove Historical Society 397 Dunkard Church Rd., Cogan Station PA 17728.
