Mary's Obituary

Mary Grigware, age 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husbands Wayne McClure & Dr. Clare Grigware. Other family members that preceded her death were Jim and Jeff Grigware and Billy and Rusty Swaney.  Mary was born July 30, 1919, in Marshalltown, Iowa to Cecelia and Claude Gogerty.  She had one brother, Richard Gogerty, who passed away in 2013. Mary graduated from St Mary’s High School in Marshalltown, Iowa in 1937.  She attended the University of Iowa where Mary graduated with a business degree in Accounting.  Her love for learning was clearly seen in her chosen career path of Accounting. She had a deep love for language and volunteered at the KDS library in Cascade for over 25 years.  She never showed her age as she was current on all events and in her mastery of today’s technology. She loved her IPAD and computer, which she used to keep in contact with all eleven great grandchildren. In her spare time she would knit hats for babies at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and loved crossword puzzles.  Her grand kids loved to take her out for pizza and a beer and would laugh when she sprinkled salt in her beer. Mary is survived by Jean, Steve, Austin, Spencer, Clare, Tom, Sue, Kirk, Bobbie, Stewart, and Joshua Swaney, Keith, Sherry, Billy, Peter, Jake and Stephanie Stewart , Richard and Jamie Eymann, and Tracy Lavrey.  She also leaves behind many dear friends at Heather Hills and others whom looked after her as of late.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 10, 11:00 am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2750 Burton SE, Grand Rapids. Msgr. Ernest P Schneider presiding.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids, 2025 E.
