Mary Melissa (Deskins) Hunter, 61, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 20, 1965, in Williamson, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Loranza Deskins and Dorethea Mae Nichols Deskins.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, James Christopher Maynard; her infant son, Steve Chantry; her brother, Robert Dow Deskins; her father-in-law, Roy Edward Hunter; and her brother-in-law, Benjamin Darlucio.
Mary was a devoted homemaker and a member of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, William Hunter of Pikeville, Kentucky; her children, Kashawnna Lynn (Chris Brown) Hunter, Kayla Elizabeth (Jason) Dillon, Alandra Desray (Justin) Wellman, and Emily Grace (Jon Hatfield) Maynard; a very special son, Brandon (Kim) Click; and special children, Jamie Swafford, Barbara, King, Ryan Swafford, and Celine Swafford.
She is also survived by her siblings, Junia (Danny) Carroll, Virginia Darlucio, Meshoia (Keith) Anderson, and Joy Swafford; her beloved grandchildren, Raylan Wellman, Maranda Hunter, Jade Wellman, Koty Brown, Dakoda Slone, Lillianna Powell, Nellie-Bell Workman, Kyler, Kamron, Kolon, Kinsley, Keelan Click, Rayland Lili Swafford, Ryder, Serana Coen, and Ashlynn King; her great-grandchildren, Wyatt Collins and Charlie Brown, with one great-grandchild expected. Mary also leaves behind a host of other loving family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mary will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, with Rick Preece officiating. Visitation will be held prior to and following the service from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky, is honored to serve the Hunter family.
