 Mary J. Kurek

Frankenmuth, MI

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at her home, with family by her side; age 93 years. Mary Eckstein was born on March 9, 1933 in Iosco County, MI to the late Roscoe and Helen Eckstein. She was married to John Kurek Jr. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Saginaw on June 2, 1951; he predeceased her on June 22, 2013. Besides raising her family, Mary was an office administrator at Kurek Tool and Die. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Mary had a gift for being artistic with painting and crafts. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, but most of all she was a loving, caring mother and grandmother.

Surviving are 6 children Jackie and Rick Kurtz, John and Kim Kurek, Judith and William Sinn, Jeri Niederquell, James and Sherry Kurek, Jeff and Debbie Kurek, Julie and Wayne Tornberg; 12 grandchildren Eric Kurtz (Vivian), Michelle Sinn, Tom Niederquell (Karen), Patrick Niederquell, Kelli Niederquell, Kyle Kurek (Lynn), Jayme Funchion (Bryce), Ashley Kurek, Ryan Kurek (Kristen), Toni Tornberg, Aiden Tornberg, Jade Tornberg; 20 great-grandchildren Bradley Kurtz, Ethan Kurtz, Josh Niederquell, Jessica Niederquell, David Niederquell, Morgan Niederquell, Stephanie Niederquell, John Niederquell, Layla Niederquell, Dominic Niederquell, Gabe Niederquell, Jameson Niederquell, Kiara Teneyuque, Alyssandra Teneyuque, Harper Kurek, Blaire Kurek, Avery Funchion, Eliana Funchion, Fin Funchion, Jack Funchion; 1 great-great-grandchild Robbie Cicero.

Mary was preceded in death by son John III, and son-in-law Thomas Niederquell Sr.

Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. Burial to take place at Floral Gardens Cemetery in Bay City. Mary’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church or a charity of donor’s choice.
