“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
ASSISTANT DISTRICT MISSIONARY DR. MARY BAKER WARREN of the William P. Wiggins Memorial District of the Iconic Virginia II Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of C.O.G.I.C was born on December 25, 1954, to the late Willie Thomas Baker, Sr and Lizzie Baker Goodman-Elder Linwood Goodman, Sr. in Suffolk, Virginia.
Mary attended John F. Kennedy High School, graduating in 1973. Mary attended Norfolk State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree and later the University of Virginia, where she earned her Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis as Reading Specialist. Mary earned her Doctorate of Theology at William P. Wiggins Bible College in 2014.
Mary worked at Boykins Elementary School, Southampton Middle School, and Fresh Start Academy for over 39 years. Mary served as Instructor of General Bible II at William P. Wiggins Bible College for several years. She was the Assistant District Missionary of the William P. Wiggins Memorial District of the Iconic Virginia II Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of C.O.G.I.C.
Mary became a member of the Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows local chapter in 1979. She was the devoted Treasurer of The Seffolk Ministers Wives and Ministers Widows. Sister Mary was supportive within the VAMWMW in Maintaining several Prayer Partners throughout the state of Virginia. Mary was also a member of the International level of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows. Even through her illness, Sister Mary continued to attend all state functions including the April 2025 Conference in Fairfax, Virginia.
Mary was a member of The Hollywood Civic League. Outside of work, Mary devoted her time to being the Best First Lady of Faith, Hope, and Love Ministries in Jerusalem, spending time with family and church family. Mary stayed young by filling her life and activities with the young people in her church. She kept busy giving the youth of Faith, Hope, and Love various opportunities to learn and have fun. She was sure to celebrate each and every member of the congregation for their birthday or anniversary. She enjoyed beautifying the church. We literally had to rush her out after service. She was always the last to leave. She loved God and His word. If you really knew her, you would know that she’d always say “The Word is so delicious!”
Reading was definitely her calling. Mary ensured that every child in her care went to the library summer reading program. She tutored during the school year and summer break every year. She made sure to give books to everyone on special occasions. She enjoyed watching CBN, TBN, Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movies and Westerns (Gunsmoke). She loved to go to Roses on Wednesday for the Senior Citizen discount day. Aunt Mary could shop and shop and shop.
God decided to call His Angel home to rest from her courageous fight. She was reunited with her parents; son Baby Robert L. Warren III; as well as her siblings, Joyce A. Harris, Trina D. Artis, Willie D. Baker, Lois Reid, Margaret Jones, Lula Wiggins, James Goodman, Frank Goodman, Linwood Goodman, Jr., Cleophus Goodman and one of her closest friends Laverne Urquhart.
