Marybeth's Obituary

Marybeth Elizabeth Perkins-Mathaisell,

Passed away on June 13th 2023 at Sutter Memorial Hospital after a very short time being diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. Her son and daughter were by her side. Marybeth was born in Pennsylvania in 1947 to her parents Joseph Pekins and Elizabeth Moore. She was a creative artist her whole life, working with all mediums including sculpture, wax castings jewelry, paper mache, and water color, as well as being an incredible seamstress. She illustrated and wrote two children’s books, Merth and The Wedding of the Seahorses. She also did makeup for local theater arts groups. Marybeth went to school and received her LVN nursing license. She married young at the age of 18 to her first husband Michael Raysson. She was told she would never be able to have children after trying to conceive for many years. At the age of 23 she and Michale adopted their daughter. Years passed and they divorced. She remarried Joseph Mathaisell Jr. and had a baby boy. She lived in New Hampshire and California back and forth for some years, until settling for good in Northern California. Marybeth was a lover of life. She held her family and friends close and they meant the world to her. She never forgot a birthday, even if she did not tell that person directly, she was thinking about them. Marybeth was unfortunate to deal with health problems at a young age, dealing with chronic pain and discomfort, but even with dealing with chronic pain from her thirties until her death, she managed to smile and laugh and always tried to remain positive. She is deeply missed by many, and touched our hearts in a way unexplainable.

She is remembered and honored with each passing day. Forever in our hearts will you stay.

There was a celebration of life for Marybeth on September 2, 2023 honoring her 75Th birthday at a beautiful community garden with friends and family. Marybeth loved nature and gardening as well as all animals, she loved and took good care of her cats and two dogs. She is survived by her children Joseph Mathaisell and Rabia Raysson, family, and friends. She is loved forever.
