Matilda J. Geiwitz

Matilda J. Geiwitz, 93, of Mercer, passed away at Avalon Springs in Mercer on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 11:40 PM. She was born in Tarentum, PA on September 15, 1925 to Walter and Marie Smith Clay.

Matilda was a member of Coolspring Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the church choir and Missionary Society.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and also painting.

Matilda last worked at Shannon’s Kandy Kitchen in Mercer.

She is survived by: one daughter: Diane Thompson in Mercer, PA; one son: Michael J. (Cindy) Geiwitz in McDonough, GA; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Matilda was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Carl J. Geiwitz (died on March 7, 2001) whom she married on November 23, 1945; one sister: Sharon E. Piepenhagen; and 4 brothers.

Funeral service will be at Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., 144 S. Pitt Street, Mercer, PA 16137 on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Philip Chalfant officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 4-7 PM and also on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 one hour prior to the funeral service (10-11 AM). Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Jackson Twp., PA.
