Dad and I were so sorry to hear about Moe. Even though dad's longterm memory is fading, he remembers Moe very well. Moe was a wonderful man, and he will be greatly missed.

Maurice's Obituary

Maurice Edwin "Moe" Fettig, age 81 of Elwood, died March 21, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following a very brief illness. He was born February 6, 1930 in Elwood, the son of Edwin and Jessie (Bailey) Fettig. Maurice was a 1948 graduate of Elwood High School. He married Marilyn Jane Darrow on August 25, 1951. Following his graduation from Indiana University School of Business in 1952, he worked in the Insurance-Payroll Department of Purdue University. He later held various positions in the Heinz Manufacturing Company in Elwood before entering the insurance business with the Morris DeHority agency in 1966. He was an independent insurance agent associated with several local agencies until his retirement in 1992.He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood; a former member and Grand Knight of the Elwood Knights of Columbus; a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Society; and a lifetime member of the Indiana University Alumni Association. He was also a member and past-president of the I.U. Delta Chi Fraternity, the Elwood Y.M.C.A., the Elwood Country Club, and the Elwood Country Club Realty Corporation. He was made an honorary member of the I.U. Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity for having three sons initiated into the fraternity.Maurice enjoyed culinary preparation, bread baking, reading mystery novels, and golfing. He also enjoyed fishing and made many annual trips to fishing lodges in Canada with his sons and close friends. He and Marilyn enjoyed taking many travel tours, and their travels included 53 foreign countries and 48 U.S. states.He is survived by: Wife of nearly 60 years - Marilyn Jane (Darrow) Fettig of Elwood; 5 Sons – Kurt D. (Lisa) Fettig of Tipton County, Jeff M. (Marcia) Fettig of St. Joseph, MI, Greg E. (Karlette) Fettig of Noblesville, Kris C. (Karen) Fettig of Akron, OH, and Dr. Todd J. (Tonya) Fettig of Hartford City; 4 Daughters – Kaye D. Kilgore of Winfield, IL, Jane M. (Larry) Harper of Tipton County, Lynn T. (David) Malson of Grand Rapids, MI, and Beth E. Mitchell of Tipton County; 25 Grandchildren; 2 Great-Grandchildren with one expected in May; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 Brothers – Daniel Fettig and Benedict Fettig; and 2 Sisters – Marilyn Seright and Lenore Singer.A funeral mass will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, March 25, 2011 at St. Joseph Church in Elwood with Father Keith Hosey officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 PM Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.
