Maurice Eugene Kellander was born on May 30, 1929, in rural East Chain, MN to Knute and Anna (Dahl) Kellander. Maurice survived polio which struck him as a young adult. He attended East Chain School and graduated in 1947. He attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN.

Maurice was united in marriage on May 1, 1954 to Verna Bowen at First Evangelical Free Church in St. Paul, MN. This marriage was blessed with four children, Carolyn, Marilyn, Dan and Don. Maurice and Verna made their home on a farm in the East Chain area. Maurice lived his whole life there until the last few months when he lived at Maplewood Residence in Fairmont, MN. Maurice was a farmer for many years, but also worked as a school bus driver and as township assessor for East Chain and Pleasant Prairie townships.

Maurice loved his Lord and was a dedicated member of the East Chain Evangelical Free Church where he served as deacon, youth sponsor, Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, choir member, missions committee member, church historian and Young at Hearts coordinator. He was a member of the Gideons which gave him the opportunity to speak at many churches in the area and also was a member of Farm Bureau, Toastmasters and CREST where he volunteered to help seniors.

Maurice loved to travel and enjoyed trips around the continental United States, Hawaii and to visit his daughters in Venezuela and Austria. He was self-taught in piano. He liked to hike, write skits and attend East Chain School sporting events. Maurice also enjoyed trying his hand at landscaping around the yard. He found great enjoyment in spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their activities.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Carolyn (Tim) Dahlin, Marilyn (Gary) Reedy, Dan (Laura) Kellander and Don Kellander; grandchildren, Joel, Karin and Jonathan Dahlin, Anna and Ben (Jooyeon) Reedy, Emma, Knute and Sam Kellander and Alyssa Kellander; sister, Muriel Gustafson; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna Kellander; brother-in-law, Ellsworth Gustafson; and many sisters and brothers-in-law from the Bowen family.
