Denise, Jeff and Families,
We are sorry for the loss of your Mom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Our sympathy to all of Maxine’s family. My mother Shirley Parker Bauer, liked her very much and we visited her and Dennis many times when I would visit Sioux Falls. She really was a beautiful and kind woman. All of the children were very nice.
She seemed to lead a wonderful life through the years.

Much Affection, Vickie (Parker) and Lorin Hicks

Sympathies to Maxine's family! Maxine was a special lady! Will miss her! God’s blessings!

Maxine's Obituary

Maxine Lucille (Rottluff) Bickett, age 88, of Sioux Falls, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, at Centerville Care & Rehab.

Maxine was born on July 19, 1936, in Oldham, South Dakota, to Fredrick “Fritz” and Pearl Rottluff. She attended Oldham High School, where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Dennis Bickett. Maxine was a cheerleader and Dennis played basketball, beginning a love story that would last a lifetime. The couple was united in marriage in 1952 in Pipestone, Minnesota, and together they raised two children: Denise and Jeffrey.

Dennis and Maxine made their home in Sioux Falls. Maxine was a devoted homemaker, caring deeply for her family. She and Dennis were longtime members of Grace Lutheran Church, where Maxine served as president of the Christian Women’s Club.

Maxine had a natural gift for nurturing and connecting with people. She was affectionately known as "Grama Max" by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their friends. Her loving heart, kindness and generosity left lasting impressions on everyone she met.

Maxine and Dennis enjoyed spending summers at their lake home on Kabekona Bay in Minnesota and winters in Mesa, Arizona, always leaving after Christmas.  They shared a passion for Corvettes, proudly owning several over the years and participating in Corvette Club events, including annual rallies in the Black Hills. Maxine was also a talented artist and enjoyed drawing and painting.

Some of Maxine’s fondest childhood memories included riding her beloved white horse, Cherry, helping churn homemade ice cream with her father on the front porch, milking cows with her father, and helping her mother with chores on the family farm.

Maxine is survived by her two children, Denise Basche and Jeffrey (Nancy) Bickett; grandchildren Chad (Marcy) Basche, Jennifer (Chad) Barrett, Joshua (Logan) Bickett, Thomas (Lauren) Bickett, and Nikole (Dustin) Edberg; and step-grandchildren Brady Solum, Kyle (Alisha) Solum, and Courtney (Joe) Phillippi. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and four sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Dennis, her son-in-law Roger Basche, and two brothers.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Maxine’s name to Grace Lutheran Church (3300 E 18th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57103), the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
