Not sure what to say?

How lucky I was to know Mel and call him friend during the many years he worked at DPI. He was a tireless advocate for the arts, particularly music, and his enthusiasm was infectious. He was eager to take every idea and run. What an inspiring educator he was. I know he will be hiking, running, and playing music in Heaven. I am sending my sympathy to his family and friends.

I worked with Mel for a number of years at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. He was such a wonderful colleague and a tireless advocate for students and their access to the arts. He made a difference in the lives of so many. It was a privilege to have known him.

I met Mel over a cup of coffee and many more followed over the years. Good conversations always. A good man. What I appreciated most and admired in his character was his patience. It was tested and sometimes I could see it becoming a challenge in his face waiting for his coffee! But he never complained. Always a good book tucked under arm and a beautiful smile when he saw his daughters coming. Rest in peace Mel, I enjoyed knowing you.
