Mel was one of my first bosses when I was a young Assistant A.G. and he certainly had a positive impact on my career as a lawyer. He was a good example for a young person to follow: smart, compassionate, personable and always patient with those he supervised. Most important, he pursued just results under the law, not wins or personal accolades. It's easy for me to believe that he also was a wonderful spouse, parent and (especially) grandparent. I have wonderful memories of our time at Fenwick in the classroom, working in the bookstore, and as debaters. Mel tried to teach me how to pronounce Chicawgo, but I couldn't do it. I had learned to talk in Montana.

I'll have a Mass for him at my home parish.

The Dominican Friars will pray for the repose of Mel's soul in their chapel at Fenwick High School. May peace find all those who loved Mel
