With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Memphis Lee Parkey at the young age of 17. He passed away on April 5, 2025 in Burkburnett, Texas.
Memphis was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on February 16, 2008. He was a lifelong resident of Burkburnett. He is the son of Larissa Parkey of Burkburnett, Texas. Memphis was a junior at Burkburnett High School, and had attended school in the Burkburnett ISD since Pre-K. He was an active member of the FFA for three years, and also participated in welding for the past two years. Throughout his seventeen years, he was able to display his athleticism and love for sports by being active in soccer, baseball, track, basketball, and football.
Beyond school, he had a passion for the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing with his friends, and especially with his Uncle G and Uncle Ken. He loved farming, mowing, and attending tractor auctions. He truly had an old soul. He was content sitting outside, enjoying a cup of coffee, and reading Bible scriptures.
Memphis was always helping others in need. He would stop to help air up or change tires, help carry in groceries, or help with yard work. He never hesitated to volunteer when help was needed. He often quoted scripture verses and had a gift of laughter and a contagious smile. He loved to give his family and friends a good scare or laugh. He truly touched lives in beautiful, loving, and heartwarming ways.
Memphis is preceded in death by his Papa Garrett Parkey, Papa Larry Britt, and great-grandmother, Betty Jean Parkey.
He is survived by his mother, Larissa Parkey; sisters, Antoina Mutchler (husband Taige Mutchler, and nephew Kullen Mutchler), and Ashton Parkey (Cruz Alaniz); brother, Kaiden Parkey; sister, Riley Parkey; nannie, Jackie Britt; great-grandma, Betty Baumhardt; aunt and uncle, Gareth and Kristy Britt; cousins, Jorden Britt, Hunter Bloxham, Madison Scanlin, Holten Scanlin; beloved great-aunts and uncles, Jane and Ken Luig, Gary and Tomme Merrill, and Lacey and Shawn Scanlin; and many friends whose lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Burkburnett under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett. Family, friends, and others are all invited to join us in reminiscing, honoring, and celebrating his life and all of the amazing and wonderful things he did for so many people.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the account set up for Memphis at First Bank, Burkburnett. After expenses, the remaining balance will be donated in his name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
