Michael's Obituary

Michael Patrick Bunt 73 went to be with our Heavenly Father on October 2, 2025.

Born in Cooperstown, New York, Mike spent much of his adult life in Hartwick and Buffalo before retiring to Florida. He earned his AAS degree from Hudson Valley Community College and his Bachelor of Science from Buffalo State University, where he proudly helped found the university’s rugby team and was later inducted into its Hall of Fame. During his years at College, Mike also formed lifelong bonds with his college roommates, friendships he treasured throughout his life.

Mike built a career as an Industrial Engineer before enjoying his well-deserved retirement in Florida. In his free time, he was an avid golfer who loved spending time on the course in the warm sunshine. He was also a lifelong, passionate fan of the Buffalo Bills always ready to cheer on his team. Go Bills!

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Elizabeth (nee Schweitzer) and Bernard Bunt of Hartwick, NY, as well as his brothers, Arthur and Bernard (affectionally known as “Os” and “Bud”) Bunt.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy (nee Pisano), his sister Susie Hascup (Chuck), and a blended family of five children and seven grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy: Luke and Sarah Bunt  (Ian Torres Bunt), John Johnston (Joann), Ken Johnston (Rosalyn, Helana, and Autumn), and Michael Johnston (Michael, Isabella, and Asher).

Mike also deeply loved and cherished time spent with his many nieces, nephews, in-laws and their children, especially during the famed family Chicken BBQs that always brought everyone together in joy and laughter.

Mike was a great patriot and will be remembered for his love of family, the lifelong friendships he cherished, his dedication to work and sports, and the joy he found in simple moments. His kindness, humor, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a Hero.

His final resting place will be in Hartwick NY
