In Loving Memory of Michael Eugene “Mike” Thompson
Michael Eugene “Mike” Thompson was born on February 23, 1955, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Neil Thompson and Betty Gipson. He later moved to Long Beach, California, where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1973. Over the years, Mike pursued certifications in CNC programming and manufacturing, building an accomplished career as a machinist, programmer, and manufacturing engineer in the North Texas area for nearly five decades. He was also the proud founder and owner of Wichita Drill Collar from 1988-1994.
In the 1980s, Mike’s love for history and community spirit shone through as part of The Shootists of Wichita Falls, a group dedicated to bringing Old West fun and tradition to local celebrations. His passions were many--he enjoyed golf, fishing, building hot rods, and cheering on his favorite sports. Yet above all, his greatest joy came from being “Grandpa.” He adored his grandchildren and could often be found in the stands, proudly supporting them at their games, activities, and milestones.
Mike was more than a father and grandfather--he was a protector, a teacher, and a true example of strength. To his family, he was their Superman--the man made of steel--whose love and presence will forever be felt.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Neil Thompson and Betty Gipson; his son, Kristopher Thompson; and his brother-in-law, Lenny Miller.
Mike’s legacy continues through his children: Julie and husband Michael Weller of Edmond, OK; Michael and wife Jennifer Thompson of Wichita Falls, TX; and Nicole Thompson of Hamilton, TX. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: Judy and Tom Bullard, Jane Greenwood, Tom Hedworth, Kris Lackey, Steve Thompson, and Nancy Miller; his ex-wife of 21 years and dear friend, Joan Morrill; and his grandchildren, Brooke Thompson, Ava Thompson, and Dylan Michael Thompson—who were the light of his life. He leaves behind memories they will cherish forever.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Solaris Hospice. The care and compassion shown to Mike over the years brought peace and comfort, reminding the family that their Superman was never alone.
Though his earthly journey ended on Monday, August 18, 2025, Mike’s love, laughter, and unshakable strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2025 in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls with Pastor Gus Garcia, officiating. Interment will follow at Bowman Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Thompson, Dylan Thompson, Ava Thompson and Gavin Parker.
