Obituary

Michael's Obituary

Michael J. Hicks departed this life on Monday, August 11, 2025 at his residence.

Michael was born in Pearisburg, VA to the union of the late Harvey and Mary Hicks.

After his graduation from Giles High School, Pearisburg, VA, he served in the U.S. Army for several years.  After his military service, Mike found joy in the pursuit of music, playing, singing and directing.  His playing reached Radford, Vinton, Christiansburg, Pearisburg, Pembroke, VA and the Roanoke Valley.

Mike as he was known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.  He had the gift to make you laugh with his  humor, funny stories and jokes.  His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.  His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many whose lives were touched by him.  We ask that you remember him not in the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and the impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Michael was preceded in death by his brothers Bobby Jean Hicks, Roger Harvey Hicks and his sister, Gearldine M. Thompson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Streeter Hicks and step son Michael Calfee, mother and father-in-law, Deacon James and Deaconess Faye Streeter of Christiansburg, VA, sisters, Betty Alexander, Radford, VA, Carolyn Tolliver (Eddie), Christiansburg, VA, Janice Cooper (James), Roanoke, VA, Goddaughter, Alanna Moore, Christiansburg, VA, sister-in-law, Anne Hicks, Pulaski, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.  Mike will be missed but your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 1:00PM at Loudon Ave. Christian Church, 730 Loudon Ave., NW, Roanoke, VA.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  The interment will be held in Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.  Arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Service
