While he was a father and grandfather to many, I have the privilege of being called his granddaughter. He was more than grandpa, he truly was Grand-DAD. He set the culture for our whole family and has guided my life in a direction that will forever remember his touch and his words of wisdom. Love you grandpa.

Mr. Michael Vernon McCord of Warrenton, MO, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. He was born on April 2, 1954 in Creve Coeur, MO, to Vernon and Ruth (nee: Black) McCord.
Mike loved Jesus and lived to share his faith with the world around him through serving others, building friendships, and offering grace to all. He was united in marriage to Shawn Opperman on May 16, 1973 and celebrated 52 wonderful years together. They raised four boys at a young age and experienced many struggles that they overcame through their strong faith in Christ. As he aged, Mike became ever increasingly compassionate, to the point of always serving others over himself. He found happiness in spending time with friends, family and hunting. The legacy he built on earth will live on forever, as will the life he is living in Heaven.
Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman. While he was always searching for the largest buck, boar, bass or catfish, he loved sharing the hunting/fishing experience with his sons, grandkids and friends - regularly giving up his hunting spot or fishing gear to let someone else shoot the big buck or catch the fish. He built many long-lasting friendships through these experiences.
He provided for his family with a long career in painting - bridges, water towers, barges when young, then homes and chalets. He was highly regarded for his speed and quality of work. In 1999, he began his own successful residential painting business (TFT) and handed it down to his oldest living son in 2017, as he retired. After retiring, when everyone thought he would slow down, Mike worked even harder to serve others - giving of his time and money to take care of the needs of others. He and Shawn started and led a ministry called SALT, where they ministered to the senior community at their church through building relationships, sharing the word of God and taking care of each other. Mike was always adventurous - riding motorcycles in his 20s, painting expansion bridges (over rivers), water towers and taking his old bass boat to max speed over rough water.
He had two sisters, Kathy and Brenda he dearly loved. Mike was blessed to have eight grandkids and two great grandkids that he loved. As a result, he became the gracious, patient and loving man that we will always remember. He enjoyed taking them fishing, hunting, playing checkers, shadow boxing and sharing his faith and history. Mike was a great friend - able to connect with men on a personal level and able to build deep lasting relationships. All the encountered him were drawn to him because of his servant heart and love.
Mike has joined his son, Michael Bradly; his father,Vernon McCord and brother-in-law/friend, Dave Opperman in Heaven. He leaves behind his loving wife, Shawn; three sons, Mark, Robby and Jeremy; eight grandkids, Chaise, Maya, Kennedi, Josiah, Boone, Brady, Lincoln and Aspen; two great grandkids, Layla and Asher; other relatives and many friends.
We will Celebrate Mike's Life on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Faith Christian Family Church in Warrenton from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 12:00 PM and burial will follow at the Warrenton City Cemetery. Online condolences may be given at martinfuneral.net
