Michael (Mitch) Robert Vorick , a long-time resident of Hoopeston, Ill, born Sept 29, 1929, died Sunday, January 12, 2014. For the past several years, due to several health issues, Mitch resided in a health care facility.Mitch served at the front lines of the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. In his early youth and adult years, he received many trophies for his varied sports accomplishments. Some of his other interests included being a little league manager, umpiring local baseball games, playing chess, checkers and cards. At one time Mitch also enjoyed hunting with friends and relatives. On his return from the war, Mitch cared for his parents until their death.He is survived by his sisters Ann Vorick Harwood, Elizabeth Vorick Stephen, Mary Vorick Hines, Margaret Vorick Carter and younger brother George Lewis Vorick. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Vorick, brothers Joseph, Steve (Sonny), John, his sisters, Bertha Vorick Cooper and Martha Vorick Solars.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at St. Anthony?s Catholic Church, with Father Patrick O?neal officiating. A private family visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Brown-Alkire Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow the service in Floral Hill Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384. Following the burial a memorial luncheon will be held at St. Anthony?s Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. Anthony Church.
