A Memorial Service for Mike Puckett, 61, of Hillsdale, will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with Dan Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Waukomis Cemetery at a later date. Mike was born to Earnest and Lucille (Atkinson) Puckett on August 25, 1953, in Enid, and passed from this life on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at his home. Mike grew up in Drummond, attending school there through 8th grade. He graduated from Enid High School in 1971. He was a member of the Drummond United Church of Christ, where he was baptized as a youth. Mike was in business with his father as house movers. Puckett House Moving changed the landscape of Garfield County and western Oklahoma by relocating many homes from the early days. Mike took over the business when his father died in 1988. The highlight for him was moving the 1893 U.S. Land Office and the Glidewell House to the Cherokee Strip Museum Heritage Village in Enid. After the house moving days were over, he owned a radio control car business, Pit Stop Hobbies & Raceways that had an oval track and off-road course. He was also in the concrete business for himself, eventually going to work for K.C. Electric heading up their concrete division. He enjoyed that career in his final years. He was in the process of building Top Gun Striping Business as his retirement project. Mike had two sons, Cory and Kyle. His sons were his pride and joy and he loved spending time with them, teaching them skills and imparting his work ethic. They all love cars and drag racing. On May 27, 2012, Mike married the love of his life, Sherry Huggins in Hillsdale. With this marriage he acquired two more sons, Matthew and Nathan Howard. Many of their plans and dreams were cut short by his diagnosis of cancer in January 2014. With Sherry by his side he fought the battle for the last eleven months. In September, Mike made his last trip to the drag strip and drove his Mustang, with his wife Sherry and his sons there with him. Mike leaves behind his loving wife Sherry of the home; four sons, Cory Puckett of Norman, Kyle Puckett of Enid; Nathan and Matthew Howard of Pottsboro, Texas; sisters Linda Jantz and husband Ernest of Ponca City, and Judy DeFelice and husband John of Yucaipa, California; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1988 and mother in 2004. Memorials may be made to Ross Hospice.
