Michael D. Savard
Frankenmuth, MI
Passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 7, 2024; age 72 years. Michael was born on July 12, 1952 in Saginaw, MI to the late Lloyd and Beth (Harris) Savard. He was married to Marilyn Klenk on January 5, 1974 at St. Josaphat Catholic Church; she survives him. Michael worked at GM for 34 years. He was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, Moose Lodge, Eagles Club and the Frankenmuth Conservation Club.
Michael led a life full of adventures shared with friends and family. His storytelling and boisterous laugh had the ability to evoke a passion for life in everyone around him, but even more significant was the way he would embrace others and celebrate their accomplishments.
At a young age, Michael became an avid hunter and fisherman. He taught his daughters how to trout fish on the Two-Hearted river and how to track a deer through thick forests. He spent months planning and preparing for each deer season. This October, with help from wonderful friends and family, he reached his hunting goal of landing a bear.
When his children were young, the family spent their summers traveling the country camping and visiting National Parks. In the winters, they would ice fish, cross country ski, and stay in primitive cabins.
Along with his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Marilyn built a log cabin on the Fox River in the Upper Peninsula. When not at the cabin, Michael would spend time at his cottage on Cedar Lake or traveling with his wife of over 50 years. He never wanted to be still for too long.
Michael’s greatest pride were his grandchildren. He loved sharing with them his zeal for life, and spending time with them hunting, fishing, and building memories.
Surviving besides his wife Marilyn are three daughters Michelle (Fred) Fitch of Livonia, MI, Melissa (Daniel) Gibson of St. Johns, MI, Megan (Michael) Martinka of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren Rebecca and Andrew Fitch, Collin and Caroline Gibson, Beckett, Brooks and Eliza Martinka; sister and brothers Cheryl Lake, Rick (Cherie) Savard, Kevin (Sue) Savard, and Terry (Leanne) Savard.
Funeral mass will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 958 E. Tuscola St. Frankenmuth, Michigan. Fr. Patrick Jankowiak will officiate. Michael’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. Frankenmuth, on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Prayer service will be held Thursday at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be at the church Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Frankenmuth Conservation Club Scholarship.
