Michael J. Vaccaro Sr., 77, passed away on October 14th surrounded by family at Hospice House of Jefferson County.
Michael was born on July 22,1948 in Watertown NY to Dominick and Emma Walton Vaccaro.
He graduated from Watertown HS in 1966. He briefly served in the Army Reserves and received an honorable discharge in December 1968 due to an industrial accident resulting in the loss of his right arm.
Michael married Pamela Gardner on December 23rd 1967. Mike and Pam moved to Dexter in 1974 where they raised their four children. Mike was active in the community by coaching Dexter Pony league baseball and volunteering his time with youth football. Mike’s interests included watching his beloved Yankees, camping with family and friends, traveling, golfing, trips to the local casinos and spending time with family.
Michael is survived by his wife Pam, sons Mick (Brenda), Jay, Christopher (Renee) and a daughter Wendy (Shawn) Cean; 5 grandchildren, Bryanna and Michaela Shippee, Peyton, Carson and Kamryn Vaccaro; 2 great-grandchildren, Harvey and Oliver Jenkins; his sister, Jeannette (Dennis) Hillick; nieces, Terra (Leland) Lear and Trisha (Dennis) Kriwox; nephews, Bill Marshall and David and Nathan Vaccaro; and great-nephew, Gaige Fasulo. He is predeceased by his parents Dominick and Emma, brother Kenneth and sister Virginia Marshall. He is also survived by lifelong family friends Dennis and Renee Smith and the entire Smith family.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Hospice of Jefferson County for the loving care Michael received as a resident. The family would also like to thank their family friends who visited faithfully for Old Folks Fridays Steve and Ruth Sullivan and Larry and Donna Bowman.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday October 17th at the Dexter Legion from 1-5 pm.
In Lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in his honor to Hospice of Jefferson County.
