Michael's Obituary

SACKETS HARBOR – Services for Michael A. Williams, Jr., 46, a resident of Sackets Harbor, will be held at the military cemetery and American Legion in Sackets Harbor in early spring, 2026, time and date to be announced. Michael passed away suddenly early Saturday morning, December 20, 2025, in his home with the family he loved. Michael is survived by his wife of more than nine years, Jessica Williams; his son, Gabriel; his daughter, Valor; his father, Michael Williams, Sr., Freeport, Texas; his mother, Debbie Nash, Brazoria, Texas; and a sister, Gwen Williams, Pearland, Texas.

Michael was born in Galveston, Texas, on April 24, 1979. He graduated from Hickory High School, Class of 1996. Michael started his military career in 1997 at 18 years of age and deployed twice to Panama and once to Bosnia, after which he re-enlisted and completed four deployments to Afghanistan.

Michael served his country with character and honor in the United States Army for a total of 23 years as infantryman, drill instructor, and recruiter for the armed forces. During his military career, Michael earned the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, eight awards of the Army Achievement Medal, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, six awards of the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with five Campaign Stars, Armed Forces Service Medal, three awards of the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, three awards of the Overseas Service Ribbon, four awards of the NATO Medal, the Multinational Force and Observers Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, UN Medal, Silver Basic Recruiter Badge with three Gold Achievement Stars, Air Assault Badge, Expert Marksmanship Badge with Rifle Bar, and Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.

During his service, he met his wife Jessica whom he married on July 4, 2016. After retiring from the military with an honorable discharge in August 2020, Michael went on to serve his community in various roles in Sackets Harbor and Watertown. At the time of his passing, Michael was working toward a Bachelor of Science in International Relations and National Security from Empire State University (SUNY) and had also earned an Associate of Arts from American Military University. In his free time, Michael enjoyed reading, Star Wars, being outdoors, spending time with his friends and family, working on his home, collecting comic books, and enriching the lives of everyone he cared for and loved.
