Mike's Obituary

Michael S. Ortega, AKA “Mike,” “Chile,” “Holmes,” “Papo Holmes,” “Homer” age 75 went home to be with our Dear Jesus on June 1, 2025. Anyone who really knew him loved him. Mike was a husband, father, grandfather, nephew, uncle, brother and friend. He was kind, loving, generous, loyal and dedicated to his family and friends. Mike was a Marine who served in Vietnam as a machine gunner and was honorably discharged. Mike worked as welder at Gateway Metal in Raton for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked going for rides in his truck and he was a big Dallas Cowboys fan. He was well known in the community for what he loved the most-coaching baseball. Mike coached his sons, Michael and Eric, among many other players in little league and senior division. He later coached girls softball for his granddaughter, Andie Ortega. He then returned back to coaching little league to coach his grandson, Trea Ortega. After that, he again coached little league with his assistant coaches, his grandkids, Andie and Trea. A lot of his former players would still call him coach when they saw him.

Mike was preceded in death by his dad, Steve Ortega, his mother Marie and stepmom Delia Ortega as well as sisters Irene and Jeanett. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Agness “Aggie”, his sons Michael and wife Crystal Ortega, and Eric and Elizabeth Ortega, granddaughters, Andie and Laney Ortega, grandson Trea and wife Maya Ortega, and great granddaughter, Isabella Ortega, Godson, Allen Martinez, brothers and sisters-in-law Steve and Trishia Ortega and Albert and Rhonda Ortega, his sisters Lisha Jaramillo and Robin Romero, sister-in-law Lorraine Sisneros and her son Mark and his wife Courtney, his aunt Pricsilla Colangelo, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
