Mike Scherbak

Mike Scherbak of Swan Plain, SK, tragically passed away on May 26, 2020, at the age of 84 years. Mike was born on January 15, 1936, on the family farm in the Swan Plain district, SK, to Nick and Mary (nee Kunetsky) Scherbak. He received his education from Bighorn School, near Swan Plain. Raised on the farm, Mike spent his childhood helping his parents and family with the many chores involved in farming operations. For brief periods of time, Mike worked on the pipelines and oil fields in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, but he always returned home to farm. He loved the land and his cattle and thus, he never really ventured far from home. As farming was his passion, Mike dedicated his life to farming the original homestead where he was born and raised.Aside from the hard work and toil of farm life, Mike enjoyed playing fastball with the Swan Plain Mercury’s and rarely missed a game. He also enjoyed going to auction sales, where he met up with many friends and enjoyed the company of others while catching up on the happenings in their lives. Mike will be remembered for his cheerful smile, work ethic, passion for farming and raising cattle. He was a valued member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Mary; brothers: Metro, Steve, and John; and his sisters, Elizabeth Tacij and Annie Tosikoski. He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Peter (Donna) of High River, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family would like to thank the surrounding community for looking after Mike over the years. They extend special appreciation to Bernard Nokinsky and family.A Graveside Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2020, at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Swan Plain, SK, with Shawna Leson as Certified Celebrant. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Mike Scherbak.
