Mildred E. Barry Wescom

Richford/Belvidere-Mildred E. Barry Wescom, 97, passed away at her home in Richford, VT on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 with her loving family by her side. She was born April 14, 1922 in Belvidere, the daughter of Rolla Barry and Nettie Tanner Barry. She married Wendell Wayne Wescom on September 16, 1940 and he predeceased her in 1972.

For over 60 years her heart and home were in Belvidere, VT. She spent her whole life nurturing others. As the oldest of 12 children, her younger years were spent helping her mother care for younger siblings. After which in 1940 she married the love of her life, Wendell Wescom and they raised their five children. The jobs of wife and mother were her purpose in life. Every new baby that came into the family brought her joy. Mildred worked very hard to make her community a better place to live in. Many days were spent cooking for a dinner or food sale to benefit the church or cemetery association. A countless number of biscuits came out of her kitchen for the local Strawberry Festival.

After Wendell passed in 1972, Mildred acquired the position as Postmaster for the Town of Belvidere. She held this position until her retirement in 1987. In 2008, she moved to Richford where she continued to make many beautiful quilts and cook many delicious meals for her family to enjoy. What a blessing she was.

Mildred is survived by her children, Arlene Tallman and husband, Gene of Belvidere; Judy Locke and husband, Ronald of Waterville; James Wescom and wife, Annie of Hyde Park and Pauline Crandlemire and husband, Richard of Richford; her siblings, Rolla Barry, Jr. of Hyde Park; Nelda Bennett of Eden; Joyce Messier and husband, Larry of Milton; Richard Barry and wife, Claudette of Hyde Park and Roy Barry and wife, Barb of Hyde Park. Mildred is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Wendell “Joker” Wescom, Jr.; brothers, Ralph (P-nut) Barry, Lloyd Barry, Donald Barry, and Kenneth Barry; sisters, Wanda Lanpher and Little Mary Barry and a great-grandson, Logan Voyer.
