On Friday May 27, 2022, Monte Edwin Blews, loving husband and father of three children passed away at the age of 85. Monte was born on October 9, 1936, in Coronado, California. His father was Frank, and mother was Ruby. He enlisted in the Air Force at an early age and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Yerby on February 10, 1956, in Pensacola, Florida. They were married for 66 years and lived a life of adventure traveling with their 3 children, Monte (Robin), Mark and Bambi. Over the years they traveled to Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Alaska, Alabama, Colorado and Florida.
Monte was an officer in the United States Air Force and had a rank of Major. During his over 20 years with the Air Force he traveled to Greenland, Thailand, Vietnam, Pentagon, Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, War College in Montgomery, Alabama and the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Over his military career he met John Wayne and Alfred Hitchcock, to name a few celebrities. He retired from the Air Force and returned to Pensacola, FL where he worked at as a bank officer and graduated from the University of West Florida with a master’s degree in Communications. Monte wanted to learn how to fly just as his father did as a Navy pilot, so he earned his pilot’s license. He then moved to Pensacola Beach and became the General Manager of the Santa Rosa Island Authority.
Monte had a passion for travel and family. One of his favorite hobbies was to create family albums and video libraries. His goal was to provide a keepsake of all the memories he shared with his family. Monte loved boating, fishing, camping, flying, the beach, walking his dog (Trixie) and always was curious what was on the horizon. On a camping trip in Acadia National Park in Maine, the family witnessed Neil Armstrong walking on the moon at a campsite. He loved the outdoors and bought the family a Winnebago, a motorcycle and snowmobiles to enjoy all that Alaska had to offer. The family went on weekly fishing and camping trips in Alaska to learn about the culture and nature.
Monte is survived by his wife of 66 years Barbara Blews, brothers Bill and Tess Blews, and Frank and Linda Blews; his children Monte Robin Blews and his wife Joyce, Mark Blews and his wife Renee, and Bambi Provost and her husband Tom. Monte had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he loved with his whole heart and soul. Monte, (Dad) was loved and will be missed by all. We will carry with us his love for family, travel, humor and friendship. His laughter was contagious, and his smile made everyone feel welcomed. He taught us all to honor our country and family and to always show integrity in all our actions.
We are so grateful for all the memories he gave us, and the unconditional love he provided us. Monte Blews will always be remembered and there will never be a moment he is not missed.
God Bless You Dad.
