Morgan Mitchell Jr., passed away on July 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Born on December 2, 1953, in Steubenville to the late Morgan Mitchell Sr. and Dixie Mitchell, Morgan was raised with strong values, a deep love for family, and a soul full of joy.
A proud graduate of Weir High School, Class of 1973, Morgan went on to work at Weirton Steel as a dedicated laborer. He took great pride in his work and in being part of a community that shaped so much of who he was.
Morgan’s life was far more than just his years or his labor. He was the kind of man who filled every room with his infectious sense of humor and warmth. He was known far and wide for his famous homemade cakes and his unforgettable barbecue sauces, but it was his spirit that truly left a lasting impression. Morgan had a special way of connecting with people. Whether you were a friend, a family member, or someone he had just met, Morgan would greet you with a gospel song, share a scripture, and offer up a heartfelt prayer. He loved the Lord deeply and never hesitated to spread that love to others.
He found peace in fishing and joy in cheering on his Cleveland Browns, win or lose. Morgan never lost faith in his team or in people. That was just who he was; loyal, passionate, and full of heart.
To many, he was “Uncle Morgan.” To others, he was “Big Baby.” To his family, he was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend whose memory will never fade. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Bertha Johnson, Lucy Pettaway, Doretha Cochrane, and Lillie Belle Palmer, as well as two brothers: Thomas McClyde and Henry Mitchell.
Morgan leaves behind his devoted wife Peggy Mitchell and their loving daughter Morgan Brittany Mitchell. He is also survived by two brothers, Kevin Mitchell and his wife Patricia, and Robert Mitchell and his wife Saundra. His sister-in-law Rebecca Thompson and her husband Dean also remain to cherish his memory, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and lifelong friends.
Morgan’s faith, food, laughter, and love will never be forgotten. His was a life well lived, and his story will continue to be told through the lives of those he touched.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 12:00 pm until the time of funeral service at 1:00 pm at the Gregory-Martin Funeral Chapel, 255 S. 7th Street (Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd.) in Steubenville, Ohio.
