Edward Wilson McDonough, Jr., 71, of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Born May 23, 1945 in Wilmington, he was a son of the late Edward Wilson McDonough and Eleanor Lois West McDonough. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and half-brother.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie H. McDonough; two children, Charity F. Mileham and William E. McDonough, both of Mt. Pulaski, IL., 2 step-daughters, Betty A. Fernandez and Debbie L. Hufham; 4 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; 3 half-sisters and 2 half-brothers.
Mr. McDonough was an over-the-road truck driver for over 46 years, with his last few years working locally for MCO Trucking. He served in the US Army, with three tours in Vietnam, and one as a volunteer for his brother. He was honorably discharged as an SP4.
His family will remember him as a good husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street. His Pastor, Dr. Sam Zumwalt will conduct graveside service at 4:00 pm Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with a reception following at St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Property Committee or Church Council at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 612 South College Road, Wilmington, NC 28403.
