Mr. Eugene's Obituary

Mr. Eugene Whitest of 609 West 10th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia died Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in Vienna, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Big Poplar Spring Cemetery in Unadilla, Georgia.

Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and to practice social distancing.  A mask must be worn throughout the stay.  You must supply your own mask. 

Eugene Whitest was born April 10, 1948 in Vienna, Dooly County, Georgia.  He was born to the late Arch and Bernice Wallace Whitest.  He was known to many as “Gene”.

Gene received his education from the Crisp County School System.

At an early age, he accepted Christ in his life and joined the Holly Grove Baptist Church.

Gene was an over-the-road truck driver for many years, a jack of all trades, he was an avid carpenter, and a dedicated caregiver to Aunt Annie Eva Wallace.

On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, while preparing for his daily routine, he peacefully transitioned from his earthly life.  He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his siblings, Willie Ruth Whitest, Archie Lee Whitest, Charlie Joe Whitest, and Wendell Lee Whitest.

He leaves behind many memories that will be cherished by his loving companion, Ms. Dorthey Owens of Cordele, Georgia; his loving and devoted children and step-children, Retired MSgt Johnny (Veronica) Ford of Warner Robins, Georgia, Mr. Tony (Caronica) Clayton of Vienna, Georgia, Ms. Lena Touray of Lithonia, Georgia, Ms. Bernice Whitest and Mrs. Ladreka (Casadeyoun) Daniels all of Cordele, Georgia; his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Ms. Kennesha Whitest Williams of Cordele, Georgia, Ms. Joi Ford of Warner Robins, Georgia, Mr. Antonneous Clayton, Ms. Antannesha Clayton both of Vienna, Georgia, Mr. Casadeyoun “CJ” Daniels, Jr., of Statesboro, Georgia, Mr. Antwuan Clayton of Vienna, Georgia, and Mr. Cayden Daniels of Cordele, Georgia; three great grandchildren, Miss Tiannah Williams of Cordele, Georgia, Master Antonneous Clayton of Vienna, Georgia, and Master Kayleb Williams of Cordele, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah (Earnest) Williamson and Ms. Joyce Ann Whitest all of Cordele, Georgia; one brother, Dr. Mathew Wayne Whitest of Cordele, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Ms. Claretha Whitest and Ms. Carolyn Thomas both of Cordele, Georgia, and Ms. Joyce Brown of Warner Robins,  Georgia; his aunts and uncle, Mr. Aaron (Mary) Wallace of Cordele, Georgia, Ms Annie Eva Wallace and Mrs. Caldon Wallace both of Vienna, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, to include Mr. Rico Whitest of Atlanta, Georgia; Mrs. Theron (Kenneth) Jackson of Byron, Georgia, Mr. Archie Whitest, Jr. of Southbend, Indiana, Mr. Untrebian Williamson, Mrs. Kenya (George) Whitehead all of Cordele, Georgia, Ms. Tomeka Whitest of Warner Robins, Georgia, Ms. Deja Whitehead, Ms. Treasure Whitehead both of Cordele, Georgia, Mrs. Katrena (Beauford) Jefferies of Clarksville, Indiana and Mrs. Kawanda (Morris) Jones of Waukee, Iowa, Ms. Lila Cross, Mr. Tony Owens, Mr. Theresa Durham, Mr. Andy Fair, Mr. Raymon Fair, Mr. James Boone, Ms. Esther Boone, Ms. Shirlee Fair, and Ms. Helen Fair; two special friends, Mrs. Sonya Young Hubbard and Mr. Ty Beal.
